2G/2.5G and 3G networks will most likely coexist for quite some time. Like with any new technology, it will take a while for 3G networks to prevail. Though many mobile customers may be satisfied with today's GSM phone, business users look forward to the higher bandwidth promised by UMTS. Cellular operators, therefore, will have to provide both GSM and UMTS. And they will find it more efficient and cost-effective to provide these two services over a single network infrastructure.
