This paper describes the rationale for workflow interoperability in the context of electronic commerce and as a means of implementing value chains that operate across and between organizations. The paper outlines initiatives undertaken by the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) to promote this capability through the use of Standards. A status update on which vendors can offer this capability is provided together with an explanation of how the capability of particular vendors can be assessed.
