The perception that the client side implementation to connect to the HTTPS sever can be achieved by specifying the URL with an additional ‘s’ is not true. If you try to use Java URL class (java.net.URL) to connect to the server using https, it would give a MalformedURLException. Java URL class does not support https. Sun has come up with a new Java Secure Socket Extension (JSSE) package that supports SSL protocol. JSSE however works with JDK1.2.2 and above compatible VMs.
