The software products Security Enhancements for Microsoft Windows NT and Security Enhancements for Microsoft Windows NT Terminal Server provide enhancements to the security of the standard Microsoft products. These security products, normally referred to as NT(SE) and WTS (SE), have been developed and are maintained by Compaq Microsoft joint development team. Over 250,000 licences have been sold to date.
The capabilities provided by the software are:
•Choice of Password Hashing Algorithms
•Password Generation
•Password Preprocessing
•Last Logon Information
•CD and Floppy Device Access Control
•CD Auditing
•Multiple Desktops.
The Multiple Desktops capability is not supported by WTS(SE), however, by using different Windows NT Terminal sessions similar functionality can be obtained. System Managers can choose to install either the entire set of functions or any combination of
them. For example, one manager may choose to install password hashing but not password generation, while other systems may only require installation of the CD and floppy device access
control function.
