The first part of this document provides an overview of H.323 protocol functionality and network topology for creating an H.323 network. The second part discusses the implementation
of H.323 built into the WiseWan system to support high quality H.323 streams in IP networks as well as troubleshooting and reporting of H.323 traffic.
H.323 is an ITU standard for videoconferencing over packet-switched networks such as local
area networks (LANs), Wide area networks (WANs) and the Internet. It allows any combination of voice, video or data to be transported. H.323 specifies several video codecs, including H.261 and H.263, and audio codecs, including G.711 and G.723.1. Gateways, gatekeepers and multipoint control units (MCUs) are also covered. H.323 is widely supported for Internet telephony.
