Throughput refers to the amount of data that is transferred between two network nodes in a given time period. It is typically measured in Millions of bits per second (Mbps).
Today, companies are analyzing throughput efficiency. If the network is supposed to transmit data at 100 Mbps, but it’s transferring data at a lesser rate, it is not performing efficiently.
For years, this was not considered a significant problem; however, with changes in business computing, the increased reliance on networks and the increased complexity of applications, inefficient network performance has become unacceptable—soon it will be intolerable.
Dramatic changes in business computing have created an increased need for enhanced bandwidth and efficient throughput.
