This paper deals with the integration of various scientific information management systems by using middleware on a transaction server. The Spectral Server system was designed using a modular approach so that it could grow as customer’s needs change and new databases and technologies emerge in the laboratory. There are a number of additional modules that are either under development or in the planning stages. These will provide the expandability and capabilities needed for building a complete laboratory data management system that meets the needs of each individual organization.
