This document describes the Enterprise Volume Manager (EVM) backup and recovery solution for SQL Server 2000 and provides a set of documented Best Practices for using EVM with SQL Server 2000. This document is intended for readers who are familiar with SQL Server database administration.

In addition to facilitating backup and restore, EVM also provides the ability to make independent copies of one or more database volumes and mount them on a separate host for batch processing, data mining, application testing, data warehousing or other processes that could benefit from having an independent copy of the database. The focus of this paper is on the backup and restore aspects of this functionality.
