Traditional operating systems do not provide adequate support for large scale multimedia-on-demand servers. The objective of the INSTANCE project is to identify and eliminate possible bottlenecks of traditional operating systems used in most server based systems. So far, we have developed with three possible orthogonal system improvements: network level framing, integrated error management, and a zero-copy-one-copy memory architecture.
