Vibration Analysis and Predictive Maintenance Programs for Large Rotating Equipment

This White Paper organizes and presents some facts about machinery vibration analysis and explodes some popular myths. We're sure it will also step on a few toes and embarrass a few engineers surrounded by elaborate purchases.

First, a definition and limitation of scope. The PM systems under scrutiny in this paper are defined as instrumentation and analysis equipment installed over-and-above traditional Supervisory Instrument Systems which inform operators of primary operating data levels of vibration, temperatures, thrust, expansion, etc. of a rotating machine. These have been around for some time, presenting alarms to operators when monitored levels exceed previously determined healthy limits. This discussion is NOT about Supervisory Systems...which are necessary and important equipment, but rather on the claims and justifications for analysis systems touting failure predictive capabilities.
