DVD, which originally stood for Digital Video Disc, then Digital Versatile Disc, but now just "DVD," is a new optical disc storage technology with the physical size and appearance of a CD, but with greater capacity. It can deliver data at a faster rate than a CD and the format allows for the storage of high quality video and audio as well as computer data. The increase in data capacity over a CD is accomplished primarily by decreasing pit size and track spacing and reducing error correction overhead.
