Combination firewall/VPN appliances are not the best solution in some environments, such as in companies that generate revenue from high-traffic Web sites and rely heavily on VPNs for branch office and remote access connectivity. VPNs eat a lot of processing power, potentially slowing down Web-traffic response-time. These companies might want to consider running separate firewall and VPN products instead.
