Magma Design Automation's new Blast Fusion™ physical design system introduces a breakthrough new methodology, FixedTiming, which provides timing sign-off prior to detailed physical layout. The timing of the final layout generated by Blast Fusion will meet the sign-off timing. In addition, the FixedTiming approach entirely eliminates the iterations between physical design and logic synthesis that are required to achieve timing closure. This can literally slash weeks or even months out of the design cycle, significantly increasing designer productivity. This backgrounder puts the technology and ideas behind Magma's FixedTiming approach into the perspective of the challenges posed by deep sub-micron (0.25, 0.18 and smaller process technologies).
