Most of the leading e-procurement software vendors have defined a process for getting supplier catalogs into their systems. In fact, most of them offer some type of supplier repository where various manufacturers and distributors can place their electronic catalog data for downloading by specific e-procurement customers. On the surface, this sounds like a reasonable approach to the catalog issue, which is why many companies embark on their e-procurement initiative with little or no concern over how they will build and maintain their e-procurement catalog. Unfortunately, most companies quickly encounter several catalog-related problems which severely hamper their e-procurement process.
