In the past few years, two new media have become widely popular with unparalleled speed. The new media are CD-ROM and the Internet. Virtually all new personal computers are now shipping with CD-ROM drives, and more than 70% of both Apple and Intel PC primary installed base PC’s report CD-ROM capability.
The entire contents of the Office of Technology Assessment Legacy Project, which comprise 800 reports and 110,000 pages have been digitized to Portable Document Format and onto five CD-ROM diskettes. The entire contents as well as the Document Information index fields are fully accessible via the Verity Topic Search engine which is included on the CD’s. The entire OTA Legacy Project offers many lessons learned in state-of-the-art document digitization effort.
