This paper describes a scenario where a proposal for a disk storage acquisition was received from a vendor. What do you do after you get that proposal? Storage acquisitions are happening with a greater frequency because of the tremendous increase in the growth of storage driven by business need. Handling a proposal from a vendor needs to be a well-understood, predictable process. It has become a very standard procedure albeit one that that has significant cost and business implications. Careers can be significantly affected by not doing this well. This paper goes through one particular scenario. Like most things, one size does not fit all. The hope is that you can take information or ideas from this and plan or improve your own procedures for acquisition of storage.
