Tropian’s use of fully nonlinear RF signal processing to implement a multi-mode mobile transmitter provides dramatic benefits over conventional solutions. These benefits include improvements in transmit spectral purity, greater manufacturability, and improved network performance. The elimination of power amplifier calibration during handset manufacturing final test, based on Tropian’s use of fully open loop power control together with high gain step accuracy, dramatically improves manufacturability. Finally the Tropian transmitter runs continuously at full power, without the need for heat sinking, over a full eight GSM time slots due to improved efficiency of the entire power amplifier. This solution services the most stringent of half-duplex and full-duplex GPRS transmit modes. The current drawn from the battery is also significantly reduced compared to conventional solutions; particularly at the medium and low transmit power levels utilized in urban and surburban digital cellular network deployments.
