A new breed of device known as a "hosting appliance" is emerging as the answer. By integrating e-Commerce software with specialized server technology, a hosting appliance can deliver a scalable, high-performance e-Commerce hosting solution without the cost and complexity of conventional servers. This paper provides an overview of today's service provider arena and the technological requirements necessary to fulfill the role of Commerce Service Provider (CSP). It concludes with a review of Intel's involvement in meeting this challenge, and provides an example of e-Commerce appliance deployment. A successful e-Commerce solution must be easy and profitable for the service provider to deploy.
