Cooperation and collaboration among Intel, leading Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has led to remarkable progress for Intel-based multi-processing workstations. The immediate, calculable benefits of multiprocessor workstations are in multitasking and multithreaded, Intel-based environments and the applications that run on them. Future multithreaded applications, written specifically to take advantage of multiprocessor workstations will register even greater increases in data handling or processing. With the availability of Windows 2000, the performance delta between single- and dual-processor systems widens as multithreaded applications capitalize on improvements made at the OS level.
