For many clients, the mainframe software value equation is out of balance, with software costs outweighing perceived value. Recently IBM announced sweeping revisions to its long-standing licensing provisions for software utilized in the S/390 mainframe environment. However, to maximize savings clients must be proactive in selecting IBM software licensing and be thoroughly prepared prior to initiating any discussions with independent software vendors (ISVs).
