A symmetric multiprocessing architecture is the foundation of scalability in Sun Enterprise servers. Because all system resources are shared, all processors have equal access to memory and storage devices via the high-bandwidth system interconnect. As a result, Sun servers are not susceptible to data locality problems that often haunt administrators of non-SMP systems. With Sun’s SMP solutions, decision support systems can be deployed and expanded without having to optimize the database for every imaginable query.
