The landscape of higher education is becoming increasingly complex as colleges and universities struggle to expand and enhance their programs in a time when resources have become stagnate or are declining. As information technology professionals within these institutions work to establish IT as a strategic resource to assist the institution in meeting its goals and objectives, they must understand, not only the technology they are trying to promote, but the institutional environment in which the technology is to be deployed. Drawing on the work of other higher education professionals, this paper is designed to review the current trends in higher education and the current issues facing higher education, in general, as well as issues facing individuals at the executive level in today’s colleges and universities.
