The purpose of this paper is to provide the reader a thorough understanding of virus threats and anti-virus solutions for the Lotus Domino environment. Although four years have past since Sybari Software released its first report on virus threats in the Lotus Notes environment, the Lotus Notes/Domino community remains largely uninformed and often misinformed by vendors on this subject. Therefore this paper will focus on the real world threats that are encountered and the specific technology used to combat these threats. Failure to provide all four elements implies that the habitat does not support viral programs. This is the basis of all anti-virus products and prevention strategies. Restricting or removing one or more elements of each habitat known to support viruses will render all possible viruses defunct. To illustrate, imagine that your computer is not connected to any other computer and has no removable storage.
