“Code Blue, Room 505” can be heard throughout the hospital from the overhead paging system. Code blue team members may also receive the same message on an alphanumeric pager in case the overhead page was not heard. Many hospitals handle code calls in this manner, alerting teams to take action. However, the scenario lacks open, two-way communication for code teams that often require a coordination effort to effectively respond to an emergency. Delays associated with paging may also cause slower reaction time, which can be detrimental to the patient or situation. Reaction time is improved, positive outcomes are increased, and communication among the emergency response team is at its best. Healthcare facilities will realize tremendous value in code calls that require more information about the emergency to effectively respond. For example, if a toxic spill occurs, the environmental services team can be notified immediately and the necessary supplies can be brought to the site. Security can also be informed of a possible intruder and gather information on the individual and location last seen while moving using the most advanced code call solution offered on the market.
