Web and thin client technologies are already impacting the way decision support systems are used. Due to the reduction in client costs, thin clients provide an attractive way to deliver information to consumers at the low end of the technology spectrum. Although there are many techniques that allow thin clients to download and execute applications, network bandwidth will ultimately determine the usefulness of the thin client in a decision support system context. In order for the Internet Appliance to become the ultimate thin client, a significant increase in network bandwidth will be necessary. SAS Software provides a fully web enabled decision support and data warehousing solution.
