Voice over DSL (VoDSL) provides an opportunity for evolutionary change in broadband networking that is expected to bring revolutionary economics in the delivery of integrated voice and data services. This white paper is intended for telecom service providers that want to gain a better understanding of the underlying economics and the core technologies required to successfully deploy cost-effective VoDSL solutions. VoDSL is projected to be a multibillion-dollar service revenue opportunity. It offers carriers and service providers compelling technology and economic benefits, which will allow them to effectively target the large and growing market segments of small businesses and consumers. Service providers that act quickly to adopt VoDSL will be in the best position to gain the first-mover advantage. Service providers have several different ways to offer voice by using DSL as the broadband access mechanism. These choices are influenced by the existing PSTN infrastructure, the intended voice service application, and by the network architecture and components that comprise the overall VoDSL solution.
