This paper will cover the basic architecture of Linux running on the Motorola ColdFire embedded processor family. It will also cover the process of developing and building embedded systems around the Linux and ColdFire combination. A broad theoretical foundation will be placed down, but the focus will be on the practical issues of Linux on the ColdFire processors. Topics to be covered in detail include the tools required, porting Linux to different ColdFire hardware platforms, porting and developing device drivers, porting and developing applications and user interfaces.
