Digital broadcast television is becoming one of the fastest growing markets in the world. Countries around the world are phasing out current analog-based TV systems and ushering in the new age of digital television. Software to address digital broadcasts will be a large part of this migration. Companies that have traditionally concentrated on hardware now must greatly increase resources dedicated to software development and testing. For many, these costs may be much greater than the hardware developoment costs. This paper describes the implementation of the DVB and ATSC standards in conjunction with DAVID and illustrates why DAVID is a perfect fit for digital broadcast components in set-top boxes and digital TV sets.
