Whether the access technology is cable, xDSL, or wireless, major advances are necessary to enable service providers to efficiently deploy new services to their residential and business subscribers. With the widespread acceptance of the DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications) standards, cable operators have taken an early lead in the race for delivering broadband services to residential and business subscribers. Furthermore, DOCSIS has defined the groundwork to improve upon the cumbersome service provisioning that exists in today’s proprietary cable modem networks.
