This discussion paper is concerned with distributed computing for the extended enterprise. It addresses integration and interworking of a variety of software deployed to handle distributed computing in a heterogeneous network environment. It compares and contrasts four different technologies: CORBA, DCE, DCOM, and Java. It also looks at the development of high-level services such as Business Objects. The paper identifies challenges in working with multiple technologies.
