The goal of this performance benchmark test was to determine the Peak Throughput of each NIC in Downstream and Bidirectional traffic flow in a switched network, using three different network operating systems (Windows NT 4.0, Netware 5 and Windows 2000 Server). TCP/IP protocol was used throughout the testing (Pure IP only was used for the Netware 5). LANQuest Labs conducted performance tests on the two competitors’ Gigabit adapters using Ganymede's Chariot network performance benchmark program to measure peak performance of the server adapters. This series of tests was sponsored by 3Com Corporation, but conducted solely by LANQuest Labs personnel using off-the-shelf test and measurement tools.
