Link aggregation is an important technology that can be used to aggregate bandwidth and to create resilient, redundant links. It can also be used to build multigigabit connections between Gigabit Ethernet switches and to aggregate Fast Ethernet and other subgigabit links such as FDDI. 3Com is delivering its own link aggregation technology in its SuperStack® II switches, CoreBuilder™ switches, and EtherLink® network interface cards (NICs). 3Com will expand support for link aggregation technology on most of its LAN switching and server NIC products in 1998 and early 1999. 3Com also helped to jump start the new IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation standards effort and will support IEEE link aggregation when the specification becomes stable.
