The Thin-Film MR head contains elements for both reading and writing Benchmark’s unique format along with elements to read the Quantum developed format standard, commonly known as the DLT-4000 format. This ability to read the DLT-4000 format provides compatibility with the following family of Quantum DLT products: DLT-4000, DLT-7000, DLT-8000. Each element in the head has been optimized for use with the specific format that it was designed for. Additionally all Benchmark lab and real world tests have proven conclusively that this MR head design can be used with the DLTtape-IV TM media. The usage of MR type heads on DLT media will become commonplace for future generations of DLT products. In fact Quantum Corporation has announced the utilization of MR heads in a cluster arrangement for the Super DLT product.
